LOVE’S WANING SEASONS
solo voice, flute (movement 3), and piano
NOTE FROM THE COMPOSER
I have always had a strong affinity for the solo voice, and in fact, two of my degrees are in vocal performance. Of course, most of my compositional output is directed toward ensemble writing, but I feel my anchor – certainly in writing choral works – is in that study and knowledge of the idiosyncrasies of the human voice. Love’s Waning Seasons is a set consisting of four movements for voice and piano. Movement three additionally involves the flute. My dear friends, Marian Stieber (Soprano) and Jon Garrison (Tenor) recorded these four works, and I served as piano collaborator. Each of these songs is a solo vocal work, and they are often done by only one voice in a recital format and so on. But I wanted to share this music with both of these, my colleagues, and so that is the reason for two singers on this solo set.
1) Autumn
2) A Winter Night
3) I So Liked Spring (*with flute)
4) Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?
