I AM NOT YOURS
Solo voice and piano
NOTE FROM THE COMPOSER
Z. Randall Stroope also wrote a choral setting of this work available from Walton Music. This solo version is only available on www.zrstroope.com
I have always loved vocal solo literature. In fact, I have a Master of Music degree in vocal performance, and appreciate the enduring legacy of art song, oratorio and opera composers.
Sara Teasdale (1884-1933), American poetess and lyricist who was born in St. Louis is one of my favorite American poets. Her major poetic themes were love, death, and nature’s beauty. In 1918, she won the Columbia University Poetry Prize (forerunner of the Pulitzer Prize).
The recorded excerpt is by mezzo-soprano, April Golliver-Mohiuddin with Z. Randall Stroope as piano collaborator.
