I AM NOT YOURS
Solo voice and piano
NOTE FROM THE COMPOSER
Z. Randall Stroope also wrote a choral setting of this work available from Walton Music. This solo version is only available on zrstroope.com.
I have always loved vocal solo literature. In fact, I have a Master of Music degree in voice, and appreciate the enduring legacy of art song, oratorio and opera arias composers. Sara Teasdale (1884-1933), American poetess and lyricist who was born in St. Louis is one of my favorite American poets. Her major poetic themes were love, death, and nature’s beauty. In 1918, she won the Columbia University Poetry Prize (forerunner of the Pulitzer Prize).
The recorded excerpt is by tenor Grant Harper with Z. Randall Stroope as piano collaborator. However, the pdf download score is one step lower and in the range of a mezzo or baritone.
