THERE IS NO ROSE
SSA + oboe, piano
NOTE FROM THE COMPOSER
I wrote this work as a gift to the 47 singers of the Bel Canto National Touring Choir. It would be accurate to say that this work is one of my two or three personal favorite (if a composer is allowed to have favorites) that I have written. (I believe that sometimes all of the stars just line up, and the composer is lucky enough to be there to “document” it.)
The text is likely 15th century. The lyrics praise Mary as the “rose” - pure and divinely ordained.
